Settings file locations
Where Cartographer stores its settings, secure settings, and other configuration files on disk, for power users who want to edit or back them up directly.
For power users who want to edit settings directly or back up configurations.
Main settings file

- Contains: appearance, model selection, keyboard shortcuts, execution mode, MCP server configurations, behavior preferences
- Plain JSON format; human-readable and editable
- Changes take effect immediately (the app watches for file changes)
- Invalid JSON is rejected; the last valid configuration is used
Secure settings file
The following table lists the secure settings file location for each supported platform.

- Contains: tool categories, Approval Mode, authentication tokens
- Only modifiable through the Settings UI
- Agents cannot read or modify this file
