Managing governed test case logs in the Signed state
Void a single signature or revert a governed test case log from the Signed state back to In Work in Test Manager.
After all signatory records for a test case log have been signed, the log transitions to the Signed state automatically. The log remains locked and immutable. Each signature in the approvers' table shows the approver's declared role at the time of signing, for example "Signed by Jane Doe as 'QA Lead' on 2026-04-28 14:32 UTC." Unlike a governed test case, a test case log has two distinct ways to leave the Signed state, described below.
Context
These are the operations you can perform on a governed test case log which has the Signed state.
- You can void a single approver's signature, which implicitly reverts the log to In Review.
- You can explicitly revert the entire log to In Work, which voids every signature on the log at once.
- You can comment on the log.
Voiding a single signature (Signed to In Review)
If any one approver voids their own signature while the log is Signed, the log automatically drops back to In Review. It does not return to In Work, and the other approvers' signatures are not affected.
Steps
- Open the governed test case log.
- Go to the end of your approver row and select the Void signature icon.
- In the Add comment panel, enter a comment and select Save.
Result
The log transitions back to In Review. Your signature, including your declared role, is voided and its timestamp cleared; other approvers' signatures remain intact. To sign again after re-review, you must re-enter your role at the time of the new signature.
Reverting the entire log (Signed to In Work)
Use this action only when you need to reopen the log for editing and re-collect every signature from scratch.
Steps
- Open the governed test case log.
- Identify your name in the approvers' table.
- Identify the Approval status menu and select the pencil icon.
- Select In work.
- Confirm the warning prompt: "This action will void all signatures on this object." Select OK to proceed, or Cancel to keep the log Signed.
Result
The governed test case log transitions back to the In Work state. All existing signatures, including declared roles, are voided, unlocking the log's editable fields, including Create Defect.
