Download a File

Download a File activity in the Databricks connector.

Project compatibility

Windows | Cross-platform

Overview

DescriptionAPI MethodAPI Path
Read the contents of a file stored on a Databricks Unity Catalog volume. Returns the raw body, so this suits text formats such as CSV, JSON or TXT.GET/fs/files/{catalog}/{schema}/{volume}/{file_name}

Input

ParameterDescriptionData Type
File Name *Path of the file inside the volume, relative to the volume root. For example, reports/orders.csv.string
Catalog *Name of the Unity Catalog catalog that contains the volume. For example, workspace.string
Volume *Name of the Unity Catalog volume. For example, my_volume.string
Schema *Name of the schema that contains the volume. For example, default.string

* Required parameter.

Output

This activity returns the contents of the file as the response body, so it has no fixed set of output fields. The output schema depends on the file you download:

  • For a JSON file, the response is the parsed JSON, so the output mirrors the structure of the file itself. Select Refresh Schema in the activity to populate the schema from the file.
  • For other text formats, such as CSV or TXT, the contents are returned as the raw response body.

To read a file's metadata without downloading its contents, use Get File Info.

Note:

You might see variations in the output depending on where you run the activity. In API workflows and Maestro Flow, a single response object containing all the fields is returned. In RPA workflows, not all fields are exposed, but you can still retrieve them from the exposed response object.
